He worked for Dicle News Agency, closed down by a decree law under the State of Emergency, as well as other media outlets such as Fırat News Agency (ANF), Birgün, Cumhuriyet, Radikal and Rudaw. He was arrested on December 24th, 2011 as part of an investigation known to the public as the “KCK Press Trial”. Until February 8th, 2013, he was detained pending trial. He faces 7.5 to 15 years in prison on charges of “membership of an armed terrorist organization.” His trial continues. At the first hearing of the case on September 2, 2020, after being incarcerated for almost 6 months, he was released to pend trial.
