Reporter for BirGün Daily. He is being tried with the accusation of making news of tweets of the account called “Fuat Avni”, during the term when the disassociation between “Fetullah Gülen Congregation” and AKP Government was starting to be visible. He is requested to be sentenced for from 7,5 years to 15 years of imprisonment, for “knowingly and willingly aiding an organisation without partaking in the hierarchical structure of the organisation”.

He was arrested at March 6th, 2020 for the article titled “Odatv reached the footage of the quiet funeral service of the MIT (National Intelligence Agency) member who was martyred in Libya”. He was accused of “disclosing the information and documents regarding intelligence actions”. He is being detained at Silivri Prison.

Berzan Güneş is a former reporter for Mezopotamya News Agency (MA). He was taken into custody in Şırnak on June 11, 2018. Güneş was charged for “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” and subsequently arrested. He was released at the end of his first hearing on Aug. 7, 2018. He was tried without being arrested. At the end of the trial he was sentenced to 3 years 1 month 15 days of imprisonment for “making propaganda for an organisation”. The decision was taken to the appeal court.
Şık, a food engineer, wrote an article regarding Ministry of Health’s research in Cumhuriyet Daily. Following the article an an official complaint was filed against him for “disclosing information that is to be kept confidential in a manner to cause indignance in public” by the Ministry. Following the complaint, a lawsuit was opened. He was acquitted from the accusations of “Securing Prohibited Confidential Information” and “Disclosing Prohibited Confidential Information”. He was sentenced to 1 year 3 months of imprisonment for “Disclosure of Confidential Information in Respect of a Duty”.
