Journalist Barış Terkoğlu was graduated from University of Istanbul, Mechanical Engineering Faculty. He did his masters on Political History of Middle East and International Relations in University of Marmara.
He worked as a researcher at the documentary series “Oradaydım” between 2008 and 2010 at CNN Turk. He started working as the editor in charge at Odatv news webpage at 2008. He’s been working as a columnist at Cumhuriyet Daily since 2018.
Terkoğlu was taken into custody at February 14th, 2011, within the scope of the trials known as “Odatv Case” in public. He was detained for 19 months. He was released at September 14th, 2012. He was acquitted after almost 6 years of judicial processes.
Terkoğlu, wrote the books “Sızıntı:Wikileaks’te Ünlü Türkler”, “Mahrem-Gizli Belgelerle Türkiye’nin Sırları” and “Metastaz” with journalist Barış Pehlivan.
He taken into custody at March 5th, 2020 for the article “Odatv reached the footage of the quiet funeral service of the MIT (National Intelligence Agency) member who was martyred in Libya”. The article included “information about the funeral service held for the MIT member at Manisa, who was killed during the operations in Libya”.
Following the process at at Istanbul Court House in Çağlayan, he was arrested by the decision of the court. The decision was based on the accusation of “causing the capture of the information and documents regarding intelligence actions”, “disclosing the information and documents regarding intelligence actions” and “capturing the information and documents regarding the intelligence actions”. 5 other journalists were arrested on the same grounds.
He is being kept at Silivri Prison.
Investigation against Terkoğlu is still ongoing.
